'BEHIND THE SCENES FASHION PORTRAIT SHOOT WITH CYNTHIA USING THE SIGMA ART 50MM F1.4: Jacques Gaines'

'Although I like to show tips and tricks reviews and tutorials, I sometimes just like to show behind the scenes images of the portrait photo shoots I organize to learn more and more about photography. Today I present Cynthia Bonneau. Cynthia is and aspiring model whom I met on the site of Model Mayhem. We had met through that platform and it has been nothing but a great experience. Both of us were looking to do TF work and both, I believe, had what it takes to deliver something great as an end result. Cynthia has a great has a great brunette \"girl next door\" look that is second to none. Most importantly, out of every model I have worked with, she is the one who is open to absolutely anything I dish at her. I have yet to see her say \"Ahh no, I do not feel like doing that\". We are working on about three work in progress projects that are experimental and she is rapidly becoming my \"go to\" girl whenever I need someone who is open to cool and different things. We had already met in a cafe to discuss the project beforehand and she was lovely and charming. I always meet beforehand when working with Model Mayhem contacts because as much as certain photographers can be creepy, the same goes for models on this platform as well. Needless to say, we both got along well initially and it was a pleasure. At the cafe meeting Cynthia said that she had a great makeup artist contact. She filled me in on a great MUA named Jade Fortin who I did not know existed in my area. She too was a trooper during the whole photo shoot and sort of also acted as my makeshift assistant. Here is a list of the equipment I used for this project My photography equipment: • Canon 6D body • Sigma ART 50mm f/1.4 • Canon 85mm f/1.8 • Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L series non stabilized (a bit of th same old same old) • 72 inch umbrella for the flower shots • Strobepro X600 flash • 36 inch beauty dish • Speedlite flash as a sidefill Yongnuo 568EX II • Ringlight for the sensual shots at the end • Studio was a 30\' x 30\' x 20\' white cyclo My video equipment • Canon 80D and Panasonic FZ1000 bodies • Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L series lens • Canon 85mm f/1.8 My lessons learned In this shoot all things went very well. Although the final result was not totally up to my liking, I find it pretty darned good. I think that we could have done a bit more shots looks that were more sexy feminine than just girly girly. Cynthia has that assuming woman deep within her that does not always come out and needs to be encouraged. But that being said, in the girly girly style, I think that I delivered. What is cool is that I made a great acquaintance with a real go-getter. Cynthia is really one of my best models. A small note on Model Mayhem Model Mayhem is a great platform to hook up aspiring photographers with aspiring models. It allows people who have not put themselves in the industry to have a crack at it. Unfortunately, as good as the premise is, the platform is outdated, antiquated and not very efficient. Despite all of this, it still gets great traffic. This says a great deal for the initial idea of Model Mayhem. Even with such a useless interface it still is successful.
