SORBIER\'S BURLESQUE COLLECTION COMES UP TRUMPS AGAIN Franck Sorbier, one of Paris\' top couture designers surprised guests on Friday by showing his dazzling Burlesque inspired collection under the roof of \'Cirque d\'hiver Bouglione,\' a well known circus venue - well away from the catwalk. Sorbier named his collection after a television show he remembered as a child, \'La piste aux etoiles\' (The Circus Ring of Stars.) A fitting venue for a range inspired by carnival-esque characters, and circus ring carry-on. \"When I was a child and it consisted of Circus acts, and in fact that programme was filmed here, the whole of the shoot for the programme was here, and moreover, I thought - our office is in the neighbourhood and it was a dream to have a show at the \'Cirque d\'hiver Bouglione\'.\" One by one, models emerged beneath the Parisian big top in heavily structured dresses nipped at the waist and looser long flowing gowns in decadent velvets, lace and exquisite beading. Among the Burlesque dressed models ran small children weaving in and out of life-sized model animals, carefully positioned inside the circus ring. Sorbier is well known for his workman ship, love of luxurious fabrics and clean cut lines. He has a reputation for injecting humour in his collections, while simultaneously upholding notions of romance and femininity.
