'This is something I’ve wanted to discuss for a LONNNNNGGG time: The Environmental Impacts of the Fashion Industry. One thing I’ve noticed is that in conversations about the Climate Crisis and environmental issues in general, the fashion industry is rarely mentioned. Even in conversations about social justice. Although, this is increasing. Another thing I’ve noticed is that in a more general sense, we don’t question the brands we buy from. When buying ANYTHING. We don’t think beyond the product – what’s behind this? Who made this? Where was it sourced? In many ways we have normalised exploitation in industry. And it is EXTREMELY prevalent in most. But we’re gonna get onto exploitation in the fashion industry – social and environmental. The reason I feel so compelled to talk on this in particular is because of the MAGNITUDE of our consumption of fashion. Consumption – that’s the key word. Something we urgently need to reduce (see previous videos) but particularly with fashion. In this video, I introduce the concept of Fast Fashion and describe how exactly we got to where we are now.
