'The Faru Arts and Sports Development Organization (FASDO) launched The Bongo Style Competition in 2015 in Tanzania for the first time, aimed at youth who have talents in fashion design and photography.  The Bongo Style Competition aimed to recognize, reward, and support young fashion designers and photographers and encourage them in their art and culture. We received many applications from across all of Tanzania.  Judges and trainers in photography invested their skills, experience, and knowledge in photography with the youth who are aspiring photographers and want to make photography their career.   The main role of the trainer was to train candidates in design, photography, skills in the digital age and give them overview of photography industry in Tanzania: Challenges and Opportunity. However you’re free to come up with the subject of your interest on photography industry.   Young people in Tanzania make up about 68% of the population.  Unemployment for youth in Tanzania is one of major challenges the country faces. This competition is to train youth and give them the opportunity to show off both their fashion designs and photographs.  The Tanzania fashion industry is growing at impressive rate; showing promising future in lowering employment problem with a new wave of young designers emerging who are talented enough to gain access to the world fashion stage.  The majority of designers are blending Tanzania cultural designs with modern styles to make their own hybrid cultural fusions. This makes the Tanzania designs popular in the fashion world. In Tanzania these days we see a rise in the creative side of photography with creative photography and using it as a form of expression. Fashion makes for a great union with these new forms of expression FASDO\'s vision is in creating employment for youth by promoting and developing youths’ talents in arts and sports developed Bongo Style Competition- aims to recognize, reward and support young fashion designers and photographers and encourage young people to appreciate their art and culture.   The Bongo Style Fashion was started by Lilian Nabora show was initiated on 2012. It normally showcased during Africa Film Festival and on other events in Belgium.  This project will have two categories: Young designer and Young photographer. Both aged 25 and under. Through these categories we expect to get a total number of 100+ applications across all of Tanzania.   It is vividly that photography industry just as fashion industry is growing at impressive rate, creating a demand for professional and passionate photographer.    The criteria for selecting winners was Creativeness, Expression, Uniqueness, Presentation, and Tanzanian cultural presentation. The winner of each category of fashion design and photography will receive a $1,000 Cash Price and Trip to Belgium to exhibit their work. In Belgium the winners will be hosted by Africa Film Festival, Belgium.   All finalists received personalized assistance in the development of their talents from our team in the areas of promotion, image, communication, marketing, and intellectual property. Bongo Fashion Competition aims to recognize, reward and support young fashion designers and photographers and encourage young people to appreciate their art and culture.
