'(13 Oct 2003) SHOTLIST APTN 12th October 2003, Paris 1. VS catwalk show 2. YSL designer Tom Ford on catwalk ART DECO GLAMOUR AT YSL Held at the Rodin Museum, Yves Saint Laurent gave this season its biggest dose of black on Sunday as Paris Fashion week drew to a close. Bouffant-haired models pranced out in sizzling black embroidered evening gowns, trench coats in black with gold buttons, baggy black pants or a black velours bathrobe over a bathing suit. Designer Tom Ford showed a penchant for low cuts, giving the fashion house\'s legendary women\'s tuxedo a white vest that opened up from the navel. Mannish dressing gowns were also cut floppy and and liable to fall open at the breast at any moment. In a sinuous twenties and thirties feel he melded into satins and chiffons for YSL\'s Spring collection Heels seemed almost invariably high-heeled stilettos, many in black and white leather and canvas with crystal-looking insets. Narrow suits appeared, loosely draped in powder blue satin with suit jackets closed with wide hip fastenings over a new-shaped pant that was cut loose to the knee, then caught tight with rows of tiny covered buttons. Other highlights of the show included a pale pink bias-cut jersey, pieced in a twenties diamond-pattern at the hip and with handkerchief points flying from shoulder and hem, a misty blue chiffon gown, delicately suspended from strings of crystal and swinging sparkling fringe, and a white dress smothered in gold coins with delicate pleats fanning out in the skirt.
